Happy Birthday Emma!

I don't normally do overly personal posts  but occasionally make an exception. Today is my little sister's birthday and as she is one of only a few people outside the blogosphere who know about my blog I thought she deserved her own birthday post!

So happy birthday to the best sister anyone could ever ask for!

Bake of the Week: Fruity Flapjacks

This week, I have made some fruity flapjacks. These are super easy and take almost no time at all so no excuses!

1. Put the butter, golden syrup and sugar in a saucepan and stir over a low heat until everything is dissolved
2. Remove from the heat and stir in the oats
3. Chop up the dried fruit and stir in
4. Press mixture into a baking tin (a 20cm sandwich tin works well)
5. Bake in the oven for 20-25 mins at gas mark 4
6. Leave to cool in tin, cut into slices and eat!

Told you it was easy! This is actually a recipe I learnt at school when I was about 11 that I have slowly adapted along the way. Feel free to play around with the sugar/golden syrup quantities a bit to get them how you like them.

Also try:

  • Adding different fruits: raisins and dried apple also work really well
  • Using chocolate chips
  • Eating as a quick (but sweet) breakfast bar

Something Pretty for your Hair?

Officially my new favourite thing to make: hairbands! I love wearing them pretty much everyday so why I haven't thought to make some before I will never know.

I like this one...

And this one is really cute...

But I reckon this one is my favourite...

But it was a close call!

I also discovered it's pretty hard to take pictures of hairbands that aren't on your head. But its even harder to take decent pictures when they are on your own head!

Another Fabric Swap

I almost forgot about the parcel I received from my latest fabric swap.

I can't wait to make some pretty items with all this lovely fabric. And I'm also a little bit in love with that crochet heart! This is all thanks to Jenny over at The Gingerbread House. But I'm planning a big post soon to show some of the amazing blogs I have found scrap swapping. I think I'm getting a bit addicted!

Bake of the Week: Chocolate Brownies

Welcome to my new feature: Bake of the Week. Clue is in the title really, I will share one of my favourite bakes with you every week! First up, chocolate brownies.

1. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over simmering water
2. Beat together the sugar and butter, then add the eggs
3. Sift in the flour
4. Fold in the melted chocolate
5. Tip into a 20cm baking tin and cook for around 25 minutes at 180c/gas mark 4

These brownies are deliciously sticky and were all eaten about 30secs after this photo! The recipe should make about 16 squares (depending on how big you cut them!)

Try:
  • Adding chocolate chips or dried fruit
  • With icecream

Rock and Jewellery Roll

Thought I would share a little something I made recently. I've seen patterns and tutorials for jewellery rolls all over the place recently so it was nice to have a go myself. And it gave me some practice at sewing straight lines (some were more successful than others...)

I'm pretty happy with it considering (despite how many I had seen) I didn't use a pattern and sort of made it up as I went along. Now I just need a trip to make good use of it...

Judy's Vintage Spectacular

This pretty little flyer has been on my fridge for a couple of weeks. And then I almost forgot all about it today! By the time I got there I think all the really good dresses were probably gone but I did see a few lovelies.

But instead I bought some pretty fabrics.

Mollie Makes

I have my hands on the first issue of Mollie Makes! I've had my first flick through and it's actually as if Mollie Makes have borrowed my inspiration board and put it into a magazine. I spotted my sewing machine on one page, tea towels with the same print as one of my favourite postcards on another, the manifesto print I almost bought last weekend. Every page seems prettier than the last!

Anyway I'm off for a proper read, reckon it won't be long before I'm back with more Mollie makes related excitement. I highly recommend it!
