Make the most of your day

Oh February 29th, we only get to enjoy this extra day once every 4 years. So why not make the most of it?

  • Wear your favourite outfit or at least a glamorous accessory
  • Try a different route to work to mix up your routine
  • Make some yummy cupcakes and leave them on your colleagues desks, random acts of kindness even cheer you up
  • Try that place you have always fancied for lunch (and take your full lunch break!)
  • Take your boyfriend/husband/best friend/dog on a date
  • Put your spare change in a charity box
  • Buy that magazine that always catches your eye to brighten up your commute
  • Have a relaxing bath with a good book and bubbles
  • Make it to the gym for once, maybe try that class they always mention

Valentine's Bakes

Ok, so I know Valentine's Day was a while ago now but I wanted to share my bakes from it...

First up was a chocolate sponge heart. I thought about icing it as well, but didn't want to overload it too much. So a dusting of icing sugar it was!

I used a silicone cake mould and it was so much easier than a traditional cake tin.

Then I made some little cookie people. It isn't that obvious here but they are Lego people (check out the heads and hands!). I was in a bit of a rush and didn't have any writing icing so just went with pink sprinkles. When aren't pink sprinkles a good idea?

And no baking would be complete without some cupcakes! These are just vanilla sponge with flood icing and an icing heart. The icing was originally white and I dyed it with food colouring. I'm a big fan of the marbled effect I ended up with.

On My Commute

I’ve been reading: Tess of the D’Urbervilles

Absolutely loved it! I have been meaning to read it since I saw a TV adaptation a few years ago, but never got round to it. It’s a little depressing in parts and obviously I already knew how it would end. But I would definitely recommend it.

I’ve been listening to: American Anthems

Think Boston, Foreigner, Journey. It definitely didn’t fit with the book but cheered up many a grey winter morning. The last time I listened to this album was on my road trip to Cornwall last year so it brought back great memories.

What's In My Bag

Pretty standard contents to my work bag!

Train ticket: Kind of vital for actually getting to work
Phone and headphones: for drowning out fellow commuters
Diary: just so I know where to be and when, although I’ve been using my phone for this a lot more recently
Makeup: fairly self explanatory
Spare hairband: in case I need to control my unruly hair!
Notebook and pen: for those spur of the moment blog ideas
Kindle: so I can transport myself to a different world on the train

I can literally see most of the park from my flat but it always lovely to walk around and it notice all the little details hidden away.

Booth Museum

Recently I went to the local natural history museum, the Booth Museum. It is literally two minutes walk from my house but I had never been.

I always find stuffed animals a little strange but the museum was really interesting. Most of the animals had been found in the late 19th century in the Sussex area.

Valentine's Craft Night

So on Friday I finally got to visit The Make Lounge, for their Valentine’s Craft night.

Serious ribbon envy

Greeted by a glass of fizz, there were three crafts to choose from. First up: love vouchers.

Then we tried our hand at chocolate covered pretzels.

And finally felt fortune cookies.

There were a lot of people there but we didn’t once feel rushed. Fairly obviously it was mostly women, but the mister loved the fact he was one of only about two males there!

There were plently of nibbles on the tables too. The homemade honeycomb was to die for!

I’m so pleased I finally got to visit, definitely made we want to do a workshop there soon.

Dress To Excess Exhibition

A couple of weekends ago, I finally managed to go to the Dress to Excess exhibition at the Royal Pavilion.

There were Regency clothes dotted around the Pavilion that all looked gorgeous. I had been to the Pavilion before but it was nice to have another look around. It seems so strange to have something so luxurious in the middle of a modern city.

I also got to see the Prince Regent’s coronation robe which was beyond impressive.

No photos inside are allowed unfortunately!

A Different Kind of Super Bowl

Just had a lovely weekend. Managed to squeeze in coffee with my Mum, lunch with my sister and a visit by a university friend.

It’s sort of tradition now that we always take her bowling before dinner at Nando’s!

Snow Day For Icecream

So on the day the weather decided to do this:

We decided to do this:

The guy at the cafĂ© thought we were bonkers buying icecream and we were very very cold. But it was great to enjoy the seafront with so few people about. It won’t be long until the sun is here again and you can’t move for people down there…
