Dress of the Week: Ouma

Ive gone for something a little different for this week's dress. Ouma can be found on Etsy and the dresses are all made to order for your measurements. Many of them allow for customisations too like adding sleeves or changing colours.

While many of them are wedding dresses or special occasion dresses, there are some that are more everyday too.I love the use of tulle skirts on most of them! These dresses and more can be found at Ouma.

All American Cakes

It has become our job to take the sweet stuff to Thanksgiving dinner. After the success of last years Mississippi mud pie, we had to pull out all the stops this year.

Here is my effort: a Victoria sponge with American themed decorations. This was my first attempt at icing a cake like this (I'm a big fan of butter icing), it's not perfect but I was pretty happy with it.

And this is the mister's effort: toffee meringue pie. He apparently decided to pick the most complicated recipe he could find including several ingredients he has never heard of. He did however master meringues on his first attempt which I'm a little jealous of.

Thanksgiving

Having a Thanksgiving dinner has become something of a tradition now, despite none of us having any American roots.
We just use it as an excuse for some good food and good company. And this year I actually took a couple of photos!

Tatty Devine Sugar Skull Necklace

I love Tatty Devine jewellery and I'm a big fan of Super+Super so when I heard they were holding a Tatty Devine workshop I was definitely there!

During the workshop we were each given a plain white skull, stencils, spray paints and a crazy amount of crystals and gems.I was concentrating way too much while I was there to take many photos but I'm completely in love with what I came up with.

Looking around at what everyone else was doing was great too, everyone was producing something totally unique despite starting from the same place. If you ever get a chance to attend a Tatty Devine workshop, or of course visit Super+Super then I totally recommend it!

Pottery Painting

I have a small obsession with voucher deal websites, and a while ago I spotted one for pottery painting and ended up buying it. And then dragged the mister along with me.

We decided to paint Christmas mugs, so I went with presents in red, blue and white.

The mister went for a wintry scene instead, including snow and a snowman.

I adore how my mug came out, the colours are really vivid and Christmassy.

I'm a big fan of the mister's candy cane details too. He pretended he wasn't enjoying himself but he seemed to put a lot of effort into his mug...

Dress of the Week: The White Company Pintuck Jersey Dress

I've gone for something a bit more simple and a bit more casual this week. Before now, I haven't really considered shopping for clothes in The White Company. But this dress looks really comfy while still being smart enough for work. Boots and thick tights anyone?

It's £75 from The White Company.

Birthday Cakes

I was thoroughly spoilt for my whole birthday and ended up with not just one but three birthday cakes. It's probably a good thing I'm a massive fan of cake...
First my Mum made me an early birthday cake/a housewarming present. Despite her concerns it was scrumptious.

Normally the mister deals with the savoury and the sweet is my domain. But he makes an exception for my birthday and the result was this beauty of a cake. His piping is genuinely better than mine.

And then, after an accidental request from me, my Mum very quickly made me cupcakes when I popped up to visit.

Sewing presents

It's probably even less of a surprise that I got a fair few sewing related presents as well.
I obviously didn't sew this, but someone very talented did. My Mum bought this cushion for me, and in case you don't know the ticket is for the journey I make every working day which is awesome.

Another couple of books, this time of the sewing clothes variety from the mister. I really want to give sewing my own clothes a go and these are already providing me with plenty of inspiration.

This mystery bag techically wasn't a birthday present but it was a present that I got on my birthday weekend so that counts right?
And it contains? This beautiful sewing machine! This belonged to my Mum who got it as a present from her Mum a long time ago. My Mum has never been a fan of sewing so she has given it to me so it actually gets some use. Despite being from the 1970's it still works perfectly. The instruction booklet is also wonderfully retro...

Baking Presents

When someone has a hobby/hobbies, it does make present buying a little bit easier. So it probably shouldn't be a surprise that I got quite a few baking related presents. My sister got me some gorgeous measuring cups and stencils from the Great British Bake Off range.

The mister got me this beautiful cake dome. I've wanted one for ages, so my endless hinting obviously paid off.
I also got a couple of baking books. Both of these are filled with lots of inspiration, so I'm sure you will be seeing/hearing more about both of these.
I also got some more baking tins (seriously you can never have enough) and some decorating bits like glitter, cutters and cases. I'm very excited to get busy in the kitchen with all of these!

Dress of the Week: Oasis Leather Cutwork Dress

I really love the dainty detailing on this dress, and then it is toughened up with the leather.

I've fallen up into my old habits, of picking dresses that are way out of my price range, but it is beautiful. It's £165 from Oasis.

Dress of the Week: Topshop Fringe Racer Back Dress

Think I've been slightly inspired by Strictly Come Dancing for this week's dress. I definitely can't dance anywhere near as well as they can, but I can imagine twirling around in this beauty.

It's £60 from Topshop.

Things I Like Tuesday

As it's my birthday on Friday, I'm meant to have made a birthday list. But much to the mister's despair, I haven't come up with many sensible suggestions:

  • A holiday
  • A cat
  • A unicorn (the height of my silliness I think!)
  • Baking supplies
  • Book vouchers
  • Someone to go to work for me
  • Someone to organise my birthday plans for me
  • A year's supply of Starbucks
I'm pretty sure none of the above are going to be awaiting me on Friday, but I am really excited to see what I do get!

Chocolate Layer Cake

Despite everything I've said about learning to walk before I run, and actually following recipes, I decided to have a bit of an experiment.

And this is the result: a cake with chocolate and vanilla sponge layers, sandwiched with chocolate ganache and topped with some smarties. In case it wasn't already obvious, I was just using ingredients I happened to have around the house...

It all worked out pretty well, the whole cake was a tiny bit lopsided but that was nothing some chocolate ganache couldn't correct!

Dress of the Week: Whistles Noel Boucle Dress

When a dress is named Noel, you know it's perfect for a certain time of year. Sorry folks, I'm still endlessly dreaming about Christmas party dresses.
