All American Cakes

It has become our job to take the sweet stuff to Thanksgiving dinner. After the success of last years Mississippi mud pie, we had to pull out all the stops this year.

Here is my effort: a Victoria sponge with American themed decorations. This was my first attempt at icing a cake like this (I'm a big fan of butter icing), it's not perfect but I was pretty happy with it.


And this is the mister's effort: toffee meringue pie. He apparently decided to pick the most complicated recipe he could find including several ingredients he has never heard of. He did however master meringues on his first attempt which I'm a little jealous of.
